Biography

Born Apr 25, 1957 in Wallace, Shoshone, Idaho, USA.
Died Jun 3, 2013 in Osburn, Shoshone, Idaho, USA.
Beloved husband, father, grandfather and son Mark Allen Drews, 56, of Osburn, Idaho passed away June 3, 2013. A life-long resident of the Silver Valley, Mark was born on April 25, 1957 at the former Providence Hospital of Wallace. He was the son of William “Bill” and Elaine (Starke) Drews. Mark attended and graduated from the Wallace High School in 1975. He then attended the University of Idaho, where he was a member of the ATO Fraternity. Mark married Teddy Banning on June 5, 1981 at the Mission of the Sacred Heart of Cataldo; they would have celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary this June. Mark was a well known, respected and “genuine” hard rock miner, who worked thirty-seven years in various mines throughout the Silver Valley, Montana and South Dakota. He was most recently employed with the Stillwater Mining Company near Nye, Montana. Those who knew Mark well, know that he cherished the outdoors and recreation as few others do; an avid hunter, fisherman, mountain biker and skier, he also enjoyed summer backpacking trips into the Selway Bitterroot with his family. A consummate father and community volunteer throughout the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, Mark gave of his spirit and served as a coach for the Lookout Pass Mitey Mites Ski Racing team and as a Little League coach in the Wallace area. Through these efforts, Mark was able to share his love of sports and recreation with not only his own children, but to hundreds of young people throughout the Silver Valley. His legacy, spirit and gift of teaching and coaching will carry on for years to come. Mark so loved his family and grandchildren; he especially enjoyed watching them play sports and was always their biggest fan; Mark was always cheering and present for nearly every activity his children participated in throughout the years. Mark is survived by his beloved wife Teddy Drews of the family home of Osburn; his parents Bill and Elaine Drews of Osburn; five children Billy (Marie) Smith of San Diego, California, Justin Smith of Orofino, Idaho, Matthew (Bryn) Drews of Kellogg, Casey (Sam Conley) Drews of Moscow, Idaho and Clancy Drews of Absarokee, Montana; four grandchildren Samantha Smith, Quin Conley, Lexi Jo Smith and Margot Drews. A Celebration of Mark’s Life will be held on Friday, June 7, 2013, at 1:00 P.M. at the United Church Of Christ Congregational of Wallace. A reception and a gathering of family and friends will be held at the Wallace Elks following services. There will be a viewing/visitation at the Kellogg Funeral Chapel from Wednesday, June 5th all day until Friday June 7th at 10:30 A.M.
