John Danielson Sr.Jefferson, IowaDate of Death: February 6, 2013Funeral Services for John Danielson Sr., 74, of Jefferson will be 10:30 am Friday, February 15, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson. Interment will be in the Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson, IA. Visitation will be after 11:00 am Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. An Elks Service will also be held at 7:30 pm Thursday at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home.John Alfred Danielson was born May 18, 1938 to Floyd and Velva Danielson in Kiron, Iowa. He died February 6, 2013 in Fredericksburg, Texas at the age of 74 years. John grew up in Kiron, Iowa and attended country school. He later attended school in Odebolt, Iowa. On October 11, 1956, John was united in marriage to Shirley Marie Brookbank. They were blessed with five sons and one daughter: John, Larry, Bob, Tom, Rita, and Randy. John worked for Rex Chevrolet in Odebolt, Iowa before attending US Trade School in Kansas City, MO where he graduated as an Auto Mechanic. John then went to work for his uncle Bill at Lingston Garage in Kiron, Iowa. John later moved to Webster City, IA to work at Sherman Chevrolet before moving to Jefferson to work at Finch Chevrolet.In 1970, John joined Skeeter Wilber to form the Wilber Danielson Garage and they worked together until Skeeter retired. John and his son John Jr. then formed Danielson Auto Service and they worked together until John Sr. retired in 2000. After retiring, John couldnt sit still and he went to work farming with Roger Custer. He attended DMACC Semi Driving School in Ankeny, IA so he was able to haul the grain. In the spring you could find John in his John Deere tractor getting the fields ready for Roger to plant and when fall came it was time to get the semis out for Fall Harvest. John always had a stack of maps by his chair and his bike ready to go in case someone wanted to travel north to Alaska or Nova Scotia or anywhere in the Good U.S.A. As soon as the fall field work was done, John and Shirley were packed and ready to head south and become Texas Snow Birds. John took his final 300 mile ride, from Gateway R.V. Park in Raymondville, TX to the Hill Country in Fredericksburg, TX. John was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Western Iowa Cycle Riders, South Texas Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club of Raymondville, TX, Greene County Sportsmans Club, a Lifetime Member of the NRA, and Elks Lodge 2306.John was preceded in death by his son Bob in 2003, his parents and grandparents. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley of Jefferson, IA; his children: John Jr. (Barb) of Jefferson, IA, Larry (Irene) of Emmetsburg, IA, Tom (Cindy) of Jefferson, IA, Rita of Watertown, NY, and Randy (Tammy) of West Des Moines, IA; 25 grandchildren: Ashley, Rachael, Jeff, Staci, Marcus, Bridget, Todd, Wendy, Ted, Ashley, Taran, Shelby, Sara, Jamie, Whitney, Paige, Erin, Rich, Jenny, Christopher, Stephanie, Todd, Amanda, Lane, and Valeria; 10 great-grandchildren: Jordan, Diedrick, Eli, Rylee, Trevor, Trystin, Alexis, Maddie, Khloe, and Addilinne ; one great 98 year old aunt Edna of Wenatchee, WA; 3 brother: Dean (Susan) of Denison, IA, Gary (Shirley) of Jefferson, IA, and Dale (Elsie) of Arthur, IA; one sister Myrna of Irving, TX; sister-in-law Sharon (Charlie) Ziegman of Wall Lake, IA; 4 brothers-in-law: Cork (Eileen) Brookbank of Ida Grove, IA, Marvin (Judi) Brookbank of Ida Grove, IA, Don (Kathy) Brookbank of Holstein, IA, and Harold (Kris) Brookbank of Tyler, TX; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
